Manganese Bronze

Manganese Bronze

Manganese bronze is a high-strength copper alloy that contains controlled amounts of manganese, iron, aluminium, and lead in addition to copper and zinc. These additional elements enhance the alloy’s mechanical performance, giving it excellent strength, durability, and resistance to wear and corrosion. The presence of lead also improves lubrication and anti-seizing properties, making the material suitable for components that experience friction or heavy mechanical loads.

Similar to aluminium bronze alloys, manganese bronze offers a strong combination of high tensile strength and outstanding corrosion resistance, especially in challenging environments such as marine or industrial settings. Because of these properties, manganese bronze components are capable of operating at high rotational speeds while handling substantial loads. However, to maintain optimal performance and service life, the shafts used with manganese bronze bearings typically require high hardness and smooth, non-abrasive operating conditions.
