Ingots
An ingot is a solid piece of metal, either in pure form or as an alloy, produced by melting the material and casting it into a mould to form a block or bar shape. The molten metal is poured into moulds using controlled casting methods, where it cools and solidifies into a convenient form for handling and processing. Ingots can be formed as polycrystalline structures or single crystals, depending on the manufacturing technique used.
The primary purpose of an ingot is to create a metal form that is easy to store, transport, and further process. Ingots act as an intermediate raw material that can later be converted into semi-finished or finished products through processes such as extrusion, rolling, forging, or machining. In addition to referring to the metal block itself, the term “ingot” can also describe the mould used during the casting process.
